Individual perceptions of ideas have and continue to cause the larger part of the world's population to suffer.

Each of us having grown up in a family (or with other people who have taken care of us), in a country with a culture of some kind carry different ideas or perceptions toward life.

When we as human being grasp on to these ideas to closely, we tend to imprison ourself by these ideas. The nature or origin of the idea is of no consequence. It may be social/cultural, political, or religious, regardless of its catergory it is still merely in idea open to interpretation and opinion.

Again, I cannot emphasis enough that these ideas are not inherently negative or bad and there purpose is for the most part to instill order and structure. However, the flaw is with the perception of the thinker and not that of the idea.
